Helen Hayes
Helen Hayes was born on October 10, 1900. She was a very famous actress who's career lasted for almost 85 years. Helen earned the nickname "First Lady of the American Theatre". Miss Hayes had won very hard-working awards such as an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. In her early life, Helen was wanting to act since the age of five and so she got her wish granted by her mother for letting her try out at the Washington's Belasco Theatre. Her mother was also an actress, who enjoyed playing out some roles with her daughter; probably how Helen loved acting so much! By the age of ten, Helen Hayes, had made a short film called Jean and the Calico Doll. Since then she had been a famous actress until she turned 80 and retired.
William J. Brennan Jr.
William was born on April 25, 1906 and died on July 24, 1997. But before his death, this Irish man was famous for being a member of the Associate Justice of the Unites States Supreme Court from 1956 to 1990. He was known for his outspoken views, including opposition to the death penalty and support for abortion rights. Brennan helped establish the law "one person, one vote" in America that is still going today. In his early life however, William was the second born out of eight and had to help his family when they moved to the U.S. since his father had little education. William even signed up for the Army and was ranked as Colonel. This man worked very hard just to achieve his goal of getting a good education and career.
George M. Cohan
George M. Cohan was born on July 3, 1878. This Irish man is known for being a professional and major entertainer, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer. Now that's alot he had worked for! Cohan began his career as a child, performing with his parents and sister in a well known act called the "The Four Cohans." As George grew older, he earned the name "Father of Irish musical comedy" after keeping everyone entertained during World War l. Although Cohan is mostly famous for the many songs he made, he is a brilliant actor and even acted in some Paramount Pictures films. a $100,000 bronze statue of George was dedicated in Times Square at Broadway and 46th Street in Manhattan; the 8-foot bronze statue remains the only statue of an actor on Broadway.
